Ground Breaking Ceremony Hudsonville Public Schools officially began the construction of their new Freshman Campus Facility and Transportation Facility. Board of Education members, students, teachers, administrators, GMB Architects/Engineers, and Triangle Construction members were present and marked the event with shovels in hand. The Hudsonville High School award-winning Chamber Choir began the festivities by singing the "National Anthem." Thanks to the support of the Hudsonville Community, the new Freshman Campus Facility will be able to service our freshman students on the same site as our current High School. The new Freshman Campus will be a 212,000 square foot school including a natatorium and auditorium. The construction timeline target is to welcome students into the new building the fall of 2014 with the remainder of the facility opening the fall of 2015. The anticipated opening date for the new Transportation Facility will be January of 2014. "We are truly blessed to have the dreams of this state of the art facility for all Hudsonville students becoming a reality. Were it not for the tremendous support of our community and parents, we would not be here today," remarked Superintendent Ceglarek. During the ceremony, Superintendent Ceglarek, HPS Board President Ken Hall and Freshman Campus Principal Matt Blood thanked the members of the planning team that spent over a year in preparation for this historic day. These facilities are a part of the larger bond issue that voters approved in May 2011. Other components of the bond include a new South Elementary building, athletic upgrades, converting the existing Freshman Campus to an early childhood center and other needed improvements. Principal Architect David Wilkins stated, "Our architects and engineers at GMB continue to be impressed with the quality and strength of education, planning and preparation which Hudsonville Schools continue to demonstrate through the building process. We work with a great number of organizations and see Hudsonville Public Schools as a model for others." #1- Left to Right: Hudsonville Chamber of Commerce Director Michelle Fare, Hudsonville City Manager Patrick Waterman, Hudsonville Mayor Donald VanDoeselaar, Assistant Superintendent of Business Art Bolt, Board of Education members Steve Bowerman, Dawn Sneden, Jim Stuck, Ken Hall, Mark Davis, Larry Kapenga, Mike Ostrander, and Superintendent Nick Ceglarek.
