SCHOOL FUNDING CUTS On January 11, the State of Michigan held a Revenue Estimating Conference. The purpose of this conference was to review revenues for the current year and project what revenues will be available for the next fiscal year. The economists agreed that the $165/student cut in school aid funding would stand. Furthermore, the economists agreed that the cut in funding for next school year would be approximately $268/student. If this were true, the State of Michigan would be funding our educational system with revenues below the 2004 school year. A funding cut of over $430/student over a two-year period would greatly reduce our ability to provide the excellent programs our community has come to expect. We are advocating for a structural fix to the way the State of Michigan funds education.
